CSCI 213-03 Java Programming


Welcome to Java Programming. This is the homepage for the course. It contains links to the course syllabus, the Java Developers Kit, a number of language references, a sample program and several homework assignments.

You currently have three Java compilers available to you. There are two versions of the the Java Developer's Kit available for download from Sun Microsystems. You must be careful to download the developer's kit and not simply the run-time system. Dave Dagastine has placed JDK on the computers in the laboratory. We also have have IBM's Visual Age Java compiler which will allow you to develop visual programs with complete GUI interfaces. Regardless, you may use any of the Java compilers available in the laboratory to complete your assignments and the course project.

The course will cover the basics of Java and the Java programming libraries. To PASS the course you must

  1. ATTEND CLASS
  2. DO SOME ASSIGNED HOMEWORK
  3. SATISFACTORLY COMPLETE A PRGRAMMING PROJECT COMPLETE WITH DOCUMENTATION AND PRESENT YOUR PROJECT TO THE CLASS DURING OUR FINAL MEETING. YOU MAY CHOOSE TO SUBMIT A JAVA IMPLIMENTATION OF A PROGRAMMING ASSIGNMENT FOR ANOTHER COURSE. REGARDLESS, YOU SHOULD OBTAIN APPROVAL OF YOUR PROJECT BEFORE YOU BEGIN IT.
