Welcome to Introduction to Linux Operating System.  This course is designed to introduce POSIX complient operating systems to students enrolled in CIS 103 Problem Solving.  POSIX operating systems are derived from the UNIX operating system and are dominant in computer science research.  They are also dominant in internet infrastructure and have been very influential on the development of other operating systems including MS-DOS and Windows.  POSIX operating systems are extensively used in computer science courses at Potsdam.  This course also introduces a number of useful tools supported by POSIX systems such as the LaTeX typesetting system and the emacs text editor.
